Our planning team just completed our site survey. One of the places we’ll go is Balboa Park. We can get a day pass to eight museums—for history junkies totally awesome—everything from California history to an Air and Space Museum. Since San Diego is home to Consolidated Aircraft Company and the birthplace of the B-24, there is a Liberator memorial that we’ll place a wreath to honor our vets.

This year the events schedule will be planned by our newly formed education committee. We will repeat this year’s success with more veterans stories, and try to bring in local historians whose expertise is in San Diego’s contribution to WW2 aviation. We will also plan social events around the ocean and beaches to build the connections among our 93rd family.

Speaking of connections, a personal story from my experience at the last reunion. Since joining the 93rd one of my goals was to meet my dad’s fellow crewmembers/families.

​

During the reunion, our membership director Bryan Lampner received a contact request on our website from the son of my father’s pilot. I knew the name instantly, “Tuny” Prins, as my dad often spoke with such high regard for his pilot.

Immediately the two of us began an email exchange, sharing pictures and documents, and we met on a Zoom call. We now look forward to collaborating on the story of their crew, “Home Bound.” Maybe you’ll hear that story in San Diego.

This experience is probably one of many like it. Over the years since we have formed as an association, veterans and family members have connected through our group.
